Rates and property valuations are an important part of funding local services such as roads, parks, libraries, rubbish collection, and community facilities across Auckland.

🧾 Understanding Your Rates
Auckland Council rates are charged on properties to help pay for services provided across the region and locally within your area.
Your rates bill includes:
- General rates (based on property value)
- Local board rates
- Targeted rates for specific services
- Water charges (where applicable)
Rates are usually billed quarterly, with options available to spread payments or set up automatic payments.
🏠 Property Valuations (CVs)
A capital value (CV) is Auckland Council’s estimate of a property’s value at a specific point in time. It is used to help calculate rates, but it is not the same as market value.
A CV is made up of:
- Land value
- Improvement value (buildings)
Valuations are reviewed periodically and updated across the region at the same time.

🏠 About the Retrofit Your Home scheme
The Retrofit Your Home scheme provided financial assistance of up to $5,000 for insulation and clean-heat upgrades to Auckland homes.
The assistance was attached to the property and repaid over time through rates.
More than 23,700 Auckland homes received funding through this scheme.
